No Love Songs
Preview of the gig theatre show at the Edinburgh Festival featuring the songs of Kyle Falconer
It is nearly time for the 2023 Edinburgh Festival.
I have been fortunate enough to be allowed some sneak peaks of forthcoming shows as they put in their final preparations for August.
I have a few of these which I will post when I have. So I will give you my half hearted apologies in advance for clogging up your inbox.
First up.
No Love Songs.
No Love Songs is a story that follows Lana and Jessie performed by Dawn Sievewright and John McLarnon. As a couple navigating the choppy waters and challenges of becoming new parents
Based around the real world experiences of Kyle Falconer and Laura Wilde.
They teamed up with writer Johnny McKnight and directors Andrew Panton and Tashi Gore along with the Dundee Rep to turn their idea into a piece of musical theatre.
Songs from Falconer's second solo album 'No Love Songs for Laura' are reworked and incorporated into the show.
In some ways this is a gig with a narrative as much as it is a musical.
The play touches on some difficult subjects such as post natal depression.
But don't worry if that all sounds a bit heavy.
It is also very funny.
Set in Dundee it is full of Dundonian humour with the leads bouncing witty and sharp lines off each other.
No Love Songs is on at the Traverse Theatre from the 3rd-27th of August
